Shortly after we moved into our home, a sweet friend and her mama stopped by to drop some things off. As we got to chatting, her mother shared that she made those T-shirt blankets that you’ve probably seen - a quilt comprised of old high school or college favorite shirts. I’d personally been saving my special old t-shirts for years and was excited to meet someone who could do this! However, she was sharing this information with me for a different reason. You see, she had been saving the “remains”, the “leftovers,” “the scraps” for years. She had a bin or two of all these scraps, different parts of all the different t-shirts that didn’t get used, she hadn’t wanted to throw away. So, she felt Holy Spirit tell her she should combine them, and use them to create quilts for the future residents of Solomon’s Porch. As she shared this with me my eyes welled up with tears as I thought about the beautiful significance and representation surrounding this idea.
Only a few months later, did she complete them, and brought them over just last week. You guys, they are incredible. At Solomon’s Porch, our desire is that the Lord would make the broken pieces of our life WHOLE and BEAUTIFUL. And these blankets represent that in such an amazing way. All the different pieces of our story (the t-shirt scraps), are gathered, and woven back together as we heal, and then they are sealed and protected by the covering (the fleece backing) of Jesus. They are RESTORED and whole and represent comfort & peace.
We are so grateful for these gifts and we know they will be cherished and loved.
Thank you so such a significant contribution for the people who will come to be a part of Solomon’s Porch. Thank you for using your gifts to bless others.
