Our family is currently renting a home in Menomonee Falls. About a month ago a home came up for right across the street. Our lease here is up soon, and Adam and I were talking about our next step. We had been debating between finding another home to rent or purchasing a home to live in for a season and then eventually using it as a rental for families transitioning out of Solomon’s Porch.
We love Menomonee Falls, and we love our current neighborhood, so on a whim we decided to check out the home for sale across the street. It was cute, well kept, but the backyard was a bit too open for us and the price a little too high. But even more so, as we walked back across the street I felt a deep knowing (Holy Spirit) that this wasn’t the right home for those that will be transitioning out of Solomon’s Porch. One of the main purposes of Solomon’s Porch is that through the healing and transformation that takes place during the program, participants will then return to their own communities in order to impact them for God’s glory.
After we passed on that home, we still weren’t looking very hard (or at all) for what we were going to do next. Just one week later, a friend posted a beautiful home for sale in the Sherman Park neighborhood of Milwaukee. As I looked through the pictures and attempted to call Adam a million times, I felt that same deep knowing (Holy Spirit), that this was going to be the next right step. We’ve heard about the neighborhood and the beautiful community through numerous connections, and as we met the current owners and walked through the home, we both felt an overwhelming sense of peace.
We don’t know how long the Lord will have us there, but we are excited with the journey the Lord has us on. Many people have been supportive and there have been a few that have been a bit more skeptical, especially given the current state of our city, but we know this step is significant for us. We desire to learn, to be humbled, to meet and love new people, to teach our children invaluable lessons only learned through experience, and mostly to grow closer to Jesus as we continually learn to let go of control and let Him guide and direct our steps.
